Top hot sauce
PRODUCT - Former Calgarian Ron Shewchuk -- perhaps best known as Rockin' Ronnie to Calgary barbecue lovers -- recently won a major award in California.
He and fellow foodie Denzel Sandberg earned first place at the 16th annual Napa Valley Mustard Festival's World Wide Mustard competition, for their Ronnie and Denzel's Honey Mustard BBQ Sauce.
"(The sauce) has a perfect tangy mustard flavour," says Barry Levenson, the festival's founder and the curator of the Mount Horeb Mustard Museum. "It's a real feather in Ronnie and Denzel's cap."
Shewchuk spent more than 25 years in Calgary before moving to Vancouver eight years ago; he still regularly visits Calgary, where he often hosts cooking classes through the Cookbook Co. Cooks.
Named one of America's greatest grillers in Food & Wine magazine, he is also the author of two barbecue cookbooks (Barbecue Secrets and Planking Secrets).
His new book, Barbecue Secrets Deluxe, will be released this spring.
